Guy (played by John Cassavetes) has a physically fragile wife, Rosemary (played by Mia Farrow). Ever since they moved into their new apartment, Guy has been getting along famously with a neighbor couple. However, Rosemary does not particularly like these neighbors, and she is also disturbed by a series of strange occurrences. Rosemary sees a woman committing suicide, and under the increasingly bizarre atmosphere of daily life, she begins to have terrifying dreams. In her nightmares, a hairy creature assaults her, and soon after waking from these nightmares, she learns she is pregnant. The elderly neighbor comes to care for Rosemary and her unborn baby, but Rosemary gradually suspects that all these strange happenings stem from this seemingly kind and benevolent neighbor, and even her own husband! They are conspiring against Rosemary's child. Is it Rosemary's delusion or is there something sinister happening? When she sees that the baby born has no pupils in its eyes, Rosemary knows that the devil's presence is near.
