Despite having been through many tribulations and dangers, the lone hero John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) still has a deep and insurmountable gap with his son Jack (played by Jai Courtney), just like any ordinary father and son. After many years of losing contact, John finally receives news about his son, only to find out that Jack has become a prisoner in Moscow facing the death penalty due to multiple charges. Without hesitation, he heads to distant Russia. On the day of the trial, a group of unidentified individuals launches a series of explosions targeting the court, aimed at the Russian magnate Yuri Komarov (played by Sebastian Koch), who is also under indictment. In the chaos, Jack helps Yuri escape, and the secret identity behind Jack's imprisonment gradually comes to light. In a foreign land, isolated and helpless, the McClane father and son must rely on each other to escape with their lives.
