On Christmas Eve, McClane (played by Bruce Willis) is waiting at an airport in Washington for his wife Holly (played by Bonnie Bedelia) to return by plane for the holiday. However, he inadvertently discovers a major conspiracy: Colonel Stuart, who has been dismissed by Congress, is leading his men to rescue the Central American drug lord General Esperanza who is about to be extradited.McClane informs Captain Rowa of the airport security team, but the latter's bureaucratic style and stupidity prevent any action from being taken. Colonel Stuart takes over a small church near the airport, sets up a flight control center, and cuts off all communication between the airport control tower and the air, leaving numerous aircraft unable to land. Meanwhile, McClane's wife Holly is on one of those flights.To rescue his wife and the many planes in the air, McClane must once again undertake a difficult struggle.
