Stendhal Syndrome

In 1817, the great French writer Stendhal came to Italy and spent his days in Florence immersed in the masterpieces of the Renaissance. One day, he visited the Church of Santa Croce to see the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo, and Machiavelli. As he stepped out of the church door, he suddenly felt his mind in turmoil, his heart pounding violently, and he felt like he would collapse with every step. The doctor diagnosed this as a psychological reaction caused by the frequent admiration of artistic treasures, and this rare syndrome triggered by intense aesthetic pleasure was subsequently named 'Stendhal Syndrome.' Until today, doctors in Florence still occasionally encounter patients suffering from 'Stendhal Syndrome,' with some seriously ill enough to require a few days in the hospital. Most of them are art-loving visitors with a great appreciation for beauty, who ambitiously aim to explore the artistic treasures of this Renaissance center city in just a few days, but they find themselves overwhelmed by the barrage of visual stimuli. However, Italians have a hundred percent immunity to 'Stendhal Syndrome.'
