Ben Whishaw, Russell Tovey, Alan Cumming, and others collaborate to star in BBC Four's highly anticipated new LGBT-themed series "Queers" (tentative title). The series has only one season, consisting of 8 episodes, each accompanied by a monologue. The episodes will be directed by Mark Gatiss, a writer from "Sherlock," and are currently being produced in the UK. Due to the involvement of both the BBC and the Old Vic Theatre, all 8 episodes, each with a 15-minute monologue, will be performed on stage first in July before television broadcasting. The monologues will be written by 8 authors, including Gatiss, to showcase the lives and experiences of LGBTQ individuals in British history over the past 100 years. Ben Whishaw will star as a soldier returning from the trenches of World War I in the episode "The Man on the Platform"; Russell Tovey will play a gay actor in the 1980s in the episode "More Anger"; and Alan Cumming will appear in the episode "Something Borrowed," which reflects on gay marriage. Dunkirk star Fionn Whitehead will also appear in several other episodes. The series is set to air this summer.
