Recently, British television writer Jimmy McGovern, who won an Emmy for "The Street," announced that he will create a seven-episode series for BBC titled "Banished" (tentatively translated as "Exiles"). The show will feature Russell Tovey alongside MyAnna Buring, Julian Rhind-Tutt, and David Wenham, telling the story of a group of criminals exiled to Australia in the 18th century. A description from BBC states that the series portrays the lives, loves, friendships, and survival struggles of these exiled criminals, as well as the soldiers who guard them in this territory. Russell Tovey plays the lead role of a criminal who strives and struggles to become a leader after arriving in the exile land of Australia, transmitting idealistic beliefs with the help of other criminals, while facing severe conflicts and contradictions with the ruthless military major. The series is set to begin filming in Australia in April 2014 and is expected to premiere on BBC early next year.
