The story of "Zhang Qing, the Featherless Arrow" tells of Zhang Qing, a righteous general from Dongchang Prefecture with exceptional stone-throwing skills, who is unwaveringly loyal to the common people and the court. However, due to his lack of political savvy, he is exploited by the local governor and nearly falls victim to a set-up. Eventually, he, along with his brother-in-arms Dong Ping, decides to join the outlaws of Liangshan. Zhang Qing's betrayal of the court is rooted in his disappointment with the government, and upon learning that the Liangshan heroes act in the name of justice, he resolves to rebel for a righteous cause. Although he changes sides, he remains, from beginning to end, a person who cares for the people and is loyal to his own beliefs.
