The sequel to the Battle of Myeongnyang is also set to be put into production. According to the production team, the sequel is planned to be a co-production between China and South Korea, with hopes of simultaneous release in both countries, completely breaking the time gap for film releases between the two. Historically, the year after the Battle of Myeongnyang, in 1598, the naval forces of Korea and the Japanese navy led by Toyotomi Hideyoshi engaged in the Battle of Doryang. Korean general Lee Soon-shin (played by Choi Min-sik in the Battle of Myeongnyang) and Ming general Deng Zilong jointly commanded and achieved a great victory. If China and South Korea can indeed co-produce a sequel, it is likely that this story will be filmed, and it will be exciting to see which Chinese actor will play Deng Zilong and how he will challenge Choi Min-sik.
