 Synopsis
Fifteen-year-old boy Michael Berg (played by David Kross) accidentally encounters the 36-year-old mysterious ticket collector Hanna (played by Kate Winslet), and they later develop a secret romantic relationship. Hanna loves to lie in Michael's arms listening to him read to her, always immersed in the sound of his reading. While young Michael is deeply entranced by this relationship, he realizes that he knows nothing about Hanna. Suddenly one day, this mysterious woman disappears without a word, and after a brief period of confusion and sadness, Michael begins a new life. Although World War II has ended, Germany's trials for Nazi war criminals continue. As an intern at a law school, Michael unexpectedly recognizes a familiar figure while attending a trial of Nazi war criminals. Even after eight years, he instantly recognizes that it is the Hanna who vanished eight years ago. This time, she sits in the defendant's seat in the Nazi war criminal trial, and the mysterious woman's past gradually becomes clearer during the proceedings. However, Michael discovers that Hanna would rather risk her life than reveal her secret. Hanna is ultimately sentenced to life in prison, but at this point, Michael (played by Ralph Fiennes) and Hanna's story continues... At the 81st Academy Awards in early 2009, the film received five nominations, including Best Actress, and Winslet ultimately won the Oscar for Best Actress for this film.
