The film tells the story of the Moding Taoist Lu Shiyi, who is sent by his master down the mountain to find the lost "Complete Guide to the Strange Door", but encounters the late-night bookstore owner Wu Xiubo. At the same time, he discovers the magical spellbook that has been missing from his sect, leading to a tug-of-war between the two. After descending the mountain with the intention of exorcising evil spirits, Lu Shiyi frequently encounters strange events, yet he chooses to use his boundless power and kind heart to guide many wronged souls who have died unjustly. In the end, not only does Lu Shiyi enter the mortal realm, but he also inherits the late-night bookstore.
