Brandon (played by Michael Fassbender) is a well-dressed white-collar worker in New York. He has a passion for adult films, is accustomed to masturbation, and often seeks out new sexual partners. However, his relationship with his sister Sissy (played by Carey Mulligan) is tumultuous. Sissy always leaves him voicemails, but he consistently avoids her. Yet, when Sissy moves in to live with him, he shows unusual concern for her. Brandon attends a performance of Sissy's singing with his boss, who is captivated by her charm, while Brandon is moved to tears by her voice. In front of his sister, Brandon acts indifferent, while his boss boldly pursues her, which fills Brandon with shame. One day, after a video call with his family, his boss reprimands Brandon for filling his computer hard drive with adult films, deeming it a disgrace. Frustrated, Brandon lashes out at his sister, leaving her heartbroken. Brandon had previously dated the company's black female secretary but realizes that it’s not his sexual addiction he can't let go of, but rather his concern for his sibling bond... Michael Fassbender won the Best Actor award at the 68th Venice Film Festival for this film.
