Chen Xuezhang (played by Jacky Cheung) and Huang Xiaoli (played by Anita Mui) are a couple who have been living together for many years. Although their relationship is very stable, they have never considered the idea of marriage and simply go about their daily lives. One day, Chen Xuezhang's friend A Niu (played by Louis Koo) entrusts his daughter Xiaoxue to Chen Xuezhang, hoping he can help take care of her for a while. Thus, a 'third party' enters Chen Xuezhang and Huang Xiaoli's world. At first, the two, who have never taken care of a child, find themselves in a bit of a mess, but as time goes on, they gradually become more skilled and develop a genuine bond with Xiaoxue. After A Niu takes Xiaoxue away, both Chen Xuezhang and Huang Xiaoli feel a sense of loss. This feeling prompts Huang Xiaoli to consider marriage, but Chen Xuezhang thinks it's still too early. Faced with Chen Xuezhang's constant evasion and laziness, a disheartened Huang Xiaoli chooses to leave.
