In the 1930s, Wanjiacun and Shahe Town were filled with grievances over the争夺水源. Zhao Shijun, a talented person from Shahe Town, resolutely married the kind and wise but weak and sickly only daughter of Wanjiacun's lord, Wan Daquan, named Qiu Ling, in order to resolve the conflict between the two places, while hiding his love for another woman, Shen Xinci, deep in his heart. Xinci gave birth to his daughter Zhao Xiuyun, and Zhao Shijun decided to reveal the truth at all costs. However, Xinci died at the hands of Li Gengming in order to protect Shijun. On the brink of collapse, Zhao Shijun could only live on under the care of the accommodating Wan Qiu Ling, for the sake of Xiuyun and also to find a new water source for Shahe Town.
