In the mid-Ming Dynasty, when eunuchs held power, Cao Shaoqin from the Eastern Factory (played by Donnie Yen) forged a royal decree to kill the loyal Yang Yuxuan and sought to eliminate his descendants. The female hero Qiu Moyan (played by Brigitte Lin) and the righteous hero He Hu risked their lives to rescue the descendants of Yang Yuxuan and escaped to the Dragon Gate Inn in the border desert, where they met with Yang Yuxuan's subordinate Zhou Huai'an (played by Tony Leung). The Dragon Gate Inn is actually a black market, and the proprietress Jin Xiangyu (played by Maggie Cheung) takes advantage of the chaos in the world, using her beauty and charm as bait to kill and loot for profit, but she has genuinely fallen for the handsome Zhou Huai'an. To uncover the hidden escape route within the Dragon Gate Inn, Zhou Huai'an pretended to agree to marry Jin Xiangyu. On the wedding night, the upstairs Zhou Huai'an and Jin Xiangyu each had their own secrets and were secretly competing, while downstairs, Qiu Moyan, He Hu, and others engaged in a covert struggle with the 'dogs' of the Eastern Factory, and the battle was on the verge of breaking out.
