Four years ago, a notorious riot broke out at the Lacerda prison, an event that sparked widespread debate in the society of Rio de Janeiro state and altered the fates of many people to varying degrees. Colonel Robert Nascimento (played by Wagner Moura), who directly led the elite BOPE unit, was thus promoted to Deputy Secretary of Security, gaining greater room for action; meanwhile, his favored protégé Andrew Mathias (played by André Ramiro) was scapegoated by politicians and expelled from the BOPE. Of course, Nascimento also suffered pressure from various fronts, including politics, comrades, and family. He channeled his frustrations into his work, not only expanding and strengthening BOPE's power but also purging the criminal influences of drug dealers in the favelas through relentless crackdowns. While drug dealers disappeared, the dark shadow did not lift. Corrupt police forces, led by figures like Rocha (played by Sandro Rocha), infiltrated the slums, extorting the citizens, colluding with criminals, and becoming another deep-seated issue that is hard to eradicate in Rio state.
