Shi Xiu, Yang Xiong, and Shi Qian headed towards Liangshan, stopping to rest at Zhujiadian on the way. Shi Qian was caught after stealing a rooster from the inn, and Shi Xiu and Yang Xiong fled in panic. Yang Xiong's friend Du Xing led the two in search of Li Ying, the master of Li Family Village, to rescue Shi Qian. The master of Zhu Family Village, Zhu Zhaofeng, dominated the area with his three sons: Zhu Long, Zhu Hu, and Zhu Biao, whom the villagers feared like tigers and wolves. Zhu Biao's wife, San Niang, was the daughter of the wealthy Hu Family, and the Zhu Family was allied with the Li Family, making the three villages well-defended. Li Ying was a man of good deeds and, upon seeing Shi Xiu and Yang Xiong seeking help, wrote to Zhu Zhaofeng to urge the release of Shi Qian. Unexpectedly, Zhu Zhaofeng accused Li Ying of colluding with Liangshan and, instead of releasing him, shot and injured Li Ying. Left with no choice, Shi Xiu and Yang Xiong had to head to Liangshan. Under the leadership of Song Jiang, the Liangshan heroes also planned to eliminate Zhu Family Village. Song Jiang set up camp outside Zhu Family Village and first sent Shi Xiu and Yang Xiong into the village to gather intelligence. Yang Xiong fell into an ambush and was captured, while Shi Xiu disguised himself as a woodcutter to continue gathering information on the situation in Pantuo Road. Mistakenly believing that both Shi Xiu and Yang Xiong had been captured, and misjudging the enemy's strength, Song Jiang recklessly launched an attack, resulting in being trapped. Luckily, Shi Xiu managed to break the siege, but they had already suffered heavy losses.
