 Synopsis
Man (played by Toma Ikuta), 36 years old, became enamored with coffee after graduating from university and started a business, but ultimately failed and became an unemployed freeloader. Although he desires to change deep down, he relies on his 'strong suit'—his unique ability to never admit defeat in arguments—using sophistry to disguise his disheveled life. His sister, Ayako (played by Eiko Koike), believes that his sophistry is merely 'a simple escape from reality,' and she questions their mother, Hōji (played by Mieko Harada), asserting that their mother bears some responsibility for his downfall. The mother feels struck in a sore spot and is shaken internally. Five years ago, after going through a lot, Man became a secretary for a county council member but was soon fired. He then returned to live off his mother, who runs a coffee shop, continuing his life as a freeloader. However, news arrives that the coffee shop and their family home are up for sale. After the family reunites and engages in a battle of wits, can Man escape his useless life and embark on a path to independence?
