 Synopsis
In 1867, the Tokugawa shogunate was forced to return the power it held for three hundred years. The志士 Sakamoto Ryoma, who had pushed open the door to this revolution, was assassinated before the new era arrived. Rumors about his sudden death were rampant, and it remains a mystery to this day. His widow, Oryō, remarried a traveling performer named Matsubee after his death. Subsequently, there were rumors that she was involved with a man named Torazō, who bore a striking resemblance to Sakamoto Ryoma. The scandal of the nation's hero's widow indulging in wine and lust spread throughout the city, prompting the government to send Ryoma's former subordinate, Kaku Bōei, to investigate her actions and motives. However, despite appearing to be debauched on the surface, Oryō never forgot her husband who was assassinated.
