Director Li Hanxiang's another masterwork after "The Butterfly Lovers." This historical epic was produced in collaboration between the Guolian Company, founded by Li Hanxiang, and the Taiwan Film Production Company. It involved the cooperation of elite talents from both Hong Kong and Taiwan to tell the story of Goujian's restoration of his state. The film spared no effort in production and promotion, with enormous costs, and featured a large cast and crew, produced without consideration for expenses. From the start of shooting to completion, it took a full fourteen months. The themes reflected in this film have a certain cultural unification, with strong political propaganda implications. The production faced many ups and downs before its completion in 1965. This film was initially released in two parts and later edited into a shorter version, with main actors including Jiang Qing, Zhao Lei, Zhu Mu, and Hong Bo, among other elite talents from both Hong Kong and Taiwan.
