Gabriel (played by Matthieu Amalric) is torn between two women: his ex-girlfriend Jenny (played by Jeanne Balibar) and his current girlfriend Anne (played by Virginie Ledoyen). Jenny is mature and sexy, representing the wonderful days of the past, while Anne is young and charming, passionate yet capricious. Gabriel hesitates and finds it hard to choose between them. Apart from love, work also confuses him; he is an editor at a publishing house, yet he misses the days of free creation. This conflict continues until his friend Adrien (played by François Cluzet), who is suffering from a terminal illness, suddenly passes away, prompting Gabriel to reassess Adrien's short life. Adrien published four novels but only gained recognition in the literary world after his death. He also found himself caught between his new and old loves, searching for his true love only to die unexpectedly. The brevity of Adrien's life and the irretrievable regrets in life shock Gabriel, leading him to reevaluate his own life and find a true way out of the chaos.
