This multi-camera family comedy is set in contemporary times and tells the story of a ranch located outside Denver, Colorado. It stars Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, Sam Elliott, and Debra Winger. At the beginning of the story, Colt (played by Kutcher) ends his brief and unsuccessful semi-professional football career and returns to his hometown to run the family ranch with his brother "Rooster" Jameson (played by Masterson), whom he hasn't seen for 15 years, and their father Beau (played by Elliott).
