In the lunar month of July, the Ghost Festival approaches. The streets and alleys are filled with a chilling wind, ghostly shadows emerge, creating a desolate and sorrowful scene. In a dimly lit alley, Zonghua (played by Zhang Jiahui), who has failed in business on the mainland, walks in. Betrayed by friends, he is left destitute and has faced painful changes in his life. Fortunately, his elderly father, Xiaotian (played by Lam Wai), has accepted him back. Xiaotian is the owner of a supernatural opera troupe and is currently organizing rehearsals for the annual grand performance dedicated to the spirits. Just before the show, Xiaotian suddenly falls ill, and the inexperienced Zonghua is thrust into the role of substitute director. He struggles to manage the situation and earn the trust of the troupe, but the beautiful performing actress, Xiaoyan (played by Liu Xinyou), comes to his aid, and they seem to develop feelings for each other. However, as the performance date approaches, strange and terrifying events multiply: his rebellious sister suddenly changes her demeanor, Xiaoyan oscillates between warm and cold, a disfigured woman flashes by, and there are glimpses of someone attempting suicide. There’s a saying that every grievance has its reason and that every debt has its owner; no matter how far one runs, one cannot escape the consequences…
