The story takes place in the era of the Jianghu. The orphan A Fei (played by Andy Lau) is said to have been raised by fish schools since childhood, thus he possesses extraordinary skills. However, A Fei is not interested in fame and fortune, enjoying a carefree life in a fishing village. By chance, A Fei meets Yan Shisan (played by Eric Tsang), a remnant of the previous dynasty, and they quickly become best friends. In order to help Yan Shisan reclaim the throne from the Fourteenth Prince alongside the ruler of Lanling, A Fei goes to Lanling and rescues the ruler and his daughter, Yueya (played by Anita Mui). During their escape, A Fei and Yueya develop mutual feelings, but Yueya is already betrothed to Yan Shisan, forcing A Fei to leave them in sorrow. Taking advantage of A Fei's departure, the Fourteenth Prince dispatches troops to surround Yan Shisan and the others, putting them in a critical situation.
