The Clone Wars have been going on for three years, and the Republic is about to achieve victory. General Grievous of the Separatist Alliance and Count Dooku (played by Christopher Lee) have kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine (played by Ian McDiarmid) and escaped. Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) and Anakin (played by Hayden Christensen) are sent by the Jedi Council to rescue him. Anakin kills Count Dooku and rescues Palpatine, but General Grievous escapes. Anakin dreams that his wife Padmé Amidala (played by Natalie Portman) will die in childbirth, and in his confusion, he seeks help from Palpatine, who takes this opportunity to sow discord between Anakin and the Jedi Council. As Anakin grows closer to Palpatine, a plot against the Jedi and the democracy they protect begins to unfold.
