Eight years have passed since the incident of the dinosaurs escaping from Sonar Island, and Dr. Alan Grant (played by Sam Neill) is unwilling to return to that dreadful place no matter what. Although he made a solemn vow, the current situation forced him to retract that vow. His research on prehistoric animals has hit a financial snag. At this moment, wealthy businessman Paul Kirby (played by William H. Macy) and his wife Amanda (played by Téa Leoni) approach Alan, inviting him to guide them on a plane trip to Sonar Island for a sightseeing tour. On one hand, the compensation is generous, and on the other, he learns that they won't have to land on the island. Thus, having healed from past wounds, Alan accepts their invitation.
