This film reenacts the wonderful plot of Hemingway's famous novel "The Old Man and the Sea." Santiago is an experienced old fisherman, and he has a close friendship with a young boy named Manolin. After going 84 days without catching a fish, one day, the two agree to go out to sea together. That day, they are extremely lucky and quickly catch a massive marlin. Initially thinking they could head back, they didn't anticipate that the giant fish would attract an attack from sharks. The fierce assault seems to pressure Santiago into giving up the fish he has caught. However, the old fisherman does not back down. Even when the once plump fish is left as nothing but a skeleton after being eaten by the sharks, Santiago does not give up on this hard-won catch. This film is directed by Russian animator Alexander Petrov and has received the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2000, among various other awards at the Zagreb Animation Festival and the St. Petersburg International Film Festival, including the Best Animated Short at the 72nd Academy Awards.
