Using a bold and realistic approach to reflect the daring love stories of Hong Kong's Generation X, the film features newcomers in all roles, including Chen Xiaochun, Zhou Jialing, Zhang Ruiling, and Chen Hao, all of whom perform outstandingly and rise in the film industry. These fresh faces have normal jobs during the day, but from 9 PM to 5 AM the next morning is their prime time. They enjoy carefree drinking and singing in nightclubs and indulge in one-night stands either in bed or in their cars, only to part ways after drinking dim sum the following day. The consequences of such a hedonistic youth result in some being left empty-handed, others experiencing joy turn to sorrow, and some waking from dreams to seek new lives. The screenwriter Ruan Shisheng and director Chen Desen effectively shape several main characters and skillfully interweave documentary-style actor interviews into the narrative, giving the film a refreshing style and entertainment value that starkly contrasts with similar new wave films from Taiwan.
