The story is set in the year 2257, where humanity has surpassed the speed of light, begun large-scale interstellar travel, and colonized near the solar system, making contact and establishing trade relations with multiple alien civilizations. One day, an interstellar destroyer of the Earth Federation encounters an unknown starship while exploring uncharted interstellar space. Misjudging the other party's intentions, they open fire first on the Minbari, an alien race that evolved thousands of years before humanity and possesses technology far beyond human capabilities. Unfortunately, when the Earth starship acted hastily, it inadvertently killed the presiding leader of the Gray Council, Dukhat (who actually knew that according to the grand design, the Minbari needed to unite and merge with Earth people, and this visit was not a casual one, but rather a preparation for the first close contact with humanity). As a result, the Minbari declared war on Earth, swiftly overwhelming Earth forces. However, just as they were launching a final strike on Earth, the Minbari suddenly halted their attack and announced their surrender. After the ceasefire, Earth funded the construction of the "Babylon Space Station" in neutral space, dedicated to interstellar communication, negotiation, and peaceful cooperation. The previous four stations were either destroyed or mysteriously disappeared, leading to the establishment of Babylon 5.
