The story of this movie takes place in the 1980s and revolves around a couple named Susanna (played by Luna Maya) and Surya (played by Ahmad Megantoro). They have maintained a long-term relationship and deeply love each other. When they plan to get married, their relationship faces a new turning point. However, their plans are obstructed by a major problem: Susanna's parents are burdened with huge debts. The debt is owed to the village's richest landlord, Raden Aryo (played by Tio Pakusadewo). Susanna's parents do not have enough money and seek other means to repay the debt. Raden Aryo then proposes a condition to consider writing off the debt—he wants Susanna to marry him and become his second wife. With no other option, they have no choice but to agree to Raden Aryo's demands. Due to the forced marriage, Susanna's relationship with Surya deteriorates. Shortly after the marriage, Susanna becomes pregnant with Raden Aryo's first child. This incites jealousy in Raden Aryo's first wife, Minati (played by Sally Marcelina), who is unable to conceive. Minati eventually seeks the help of a powerful witch to curse Susanna.
