The old man (played by Qiao Hong) has three sons. The eldest, Lao Liang (played by Huang Baiming), is so busy with work that he neglects his virtuous wife, Xianshu (played by Wu Yongwei). Xianshu manages everything at home, but is misunderstood by her husband, who suspects her of infidelity. The second son, Lao Fei, uses his studies to escape into society; he is innocent and yearns for love but ends up getting hurt, until he eventually meets Xiao Lian (played by Wu Qianlian) from the north. On the occasion of the youngest son Lao Gong's birthday, who is usually mischievous and flirtatious, the two older brothers gift him a lottery ticket, but it is actually an expired winning ticket. Believing it to be genuine, he ends up in debt. To make matters worse, he gets into a car accident, suffers a concussion, and becomes mentally unstable...
