Paleoecologist Rick Marshall (played by Will Ferrell) proposed the idea of time travel and secured $15 million in funding to develop a superluminal particle accelerator for time travel. However, the public did not take him seriously, instead mocking and criticizing him. For three years, Rick reluctantly taught at an elementary school, in despair. One day, a beautiful woman from Cambridge, Holly (played by Anna Friel), approached Rick and showed him an incredible fossil, encouraging him to continue his research.Regaining his confidence, Rick finally created the superluminal particle accelerator, and he and Holly went to the fossil's discovery site to test time travel. Led by the somewhat neurotic Will (played by Danny McBride), they paddled down the river in an inflatable raft. Unexpectedly, a powerful earthquake struck, and the three were swept into an unknown world, embarking on a thrilling and dangerous adventure...
