 Synopsis
This film is adapted from the second part of the "Leatherstocking Tales" series by American author James Fenimore Cooper. During the Seven Years' War in 1757, the British and French armies are fiercely battling in the North American colonies. Officer Duncan leads a mission to escort the governor's daughter, Cora (played by Madeleine Stowe), to Fort William Henry, but they are ambushed by French-aligned Native Americans. The last Mohican warriors—Chingachgook (played by Russell Means) and his son Uncas, along with the white frontiersman Hawkeye (played by Daniel Day-Lewis)—come to their rescue. However, upon reaching the fort, they find it engulfed in battle. The fort commander, Colonel Monroe, and Duncan are uncompromising, refusing to let the militia leave to reduce their fighting capability, and they imprison Hawkeye. Cora has fallen in love with Hawkeye but is powerless to help him. As the British forces find themselves in a disadvantageous position and surrender the fort, the Native American Magua leads his people to seek revenge on the British. After Cora and Hawkeye are separated, she is taken by Magua, while Hawkeye, Chingachgook, and Uncas enter the camp of Magua's tribe in hopes of rescuing Cora.
