Synopsis

A new director named Ah Sing (played by Leslie Cheung), who has consecutively faced box office failures, suddenly gets an opportunity to shoot a lowbrow commercial film while struggling with unemployment and the uncertainties of life. Initially resistant to his boss's unreasonable demands due to his aspirations, he ultimately has to face reality. With the help of his friend and producer Ah Chung (played by Lau Ching-wan), he begins filming. After completing several scenes, they review the footage and find the film filled with personal style, unclear visuals, and the poor acting of Dream Jiao (played by Shu Qi). The producer is extremely dissatisfied, and Ah Sing becomes despondent, but with encouragement from his girlfriend Ah May (played by Karen Mok), he returns to work. Just when things seem to improve and Ah Sing begins to celebrate the movie’s success with champagne, a sudden fire breaks out in the studio, destroying all his hard work.
