During the Qing Dynasty, the Shaolin Temple conspired to overthrow the Qing and restore the Ming dynasty, but was exterminated by Qing soldiers. The Shaolin disciples scattered, while the Qing court's henchmen relentlessly pursued them... The lay disciple Fang Shiyu (played by Ji Tiansheng) and his master Zen Master Zhi Neng hide from the Qing soldiers in the desert, and they encounter the reformed courtesan Dou Dou (played by Li Ruotong). The three meet amidst the chaos, and Fang Shiyu falls in love with Dou Dou at first sight. When the Qing soldiers surround them, Zhi Neng dies tragically, and Shiyu and Dou Dou are taken back to Honglian Temple. Under the control of Shen Gong (played by Huang Jinjian), many Shaolin disciples are forced into slavery. The former lay disciple of Shaolin, Hong Xiguan, submits to Shen Gong and becomes his foreman, engaging in a fierce fight with Fang Shiyu. Shiyu is ambushed by Shen Gong and left on the brink of death. The Honglian Temple is filled with traps, and the Shaolin disciples often lose their lives while working. Dou Dou, who is taken as a concubine by Shen Gong, pleads for Fang Shiyu's life. A group of Shaolin disciples decides to break out of Honglian Temple and return to freedom...
