In the turbulent and unstable later years of the Tang Dynasty, during the martial arts assembly held once every 18 years to reward the good and punish the evil, the top ten martial arts elders chose the master of the Yihua Palace to take on the responsibility of dealing with the ten evil people. However, they were unexpectedly stopped by her husband, Yan Nantian. After losing to Yan Nantian by a narrow margin, the couple turned against each other, vowing that in 18 years they would train a disciple to eliminate all ten evils. To express their gratitude for Yan Nantian's life-saving grace, the ten evil people took on the responsibility of raising his son, Xiao Yu'er (played by Andy Lau), intending to cultivate him into the most wicked person in the world. Meanwhile, the master took in Hua Wuque (played by Brigitte Lin), teaching her martial arts while instilling the belief that all men should be killed. After 18 years, the ten evils and the master each instructed Xiao Yu'er and Hua Wuque to compete for the leadership at the new martial arts assembly, marking the beginning of their intertwined fates.
