In November 1932, the Red Fourth Front Army fought a life-or-death bloody battle against the Nationalist troops at Manchuan Pass in Shanyang County, which is located at the intersection of Hubei and Shaanxi provinces, in order to break through the siege of the Nationalist troops numbering 300,000. They broke out of the Manchuan Pass, which Hu Zongnan called the 'grave of the Red Fourth Front Army', thwarting Chiang Kai-shek's attempt to annihilate the Red Fourth Front Army and preserving the main force of the army.
