The story takes place in the mid-seventeenth century in the Netherlands. Druyte (played by Frank Lammers) inherits the position of Admiral from Marten (played by Rutger Hauer), proving his wisdom and strength with a series of victories, earning the trust and respect of his subordinates. Republican official John (played by Barry Atsma) and Prince William III of the Orange party (played by Egbert Jan Weeber) are engaged in a non-violent struggle for power. Meanwhile, the war between the Netherlands and England is raging fiercely. Leading his fleet, Druyte successfully repels the enemy, becoming a nationally renowned hero; however, his rising fame forces him into the royal power struggles, threatening the lives of him and his family.
