Set in a future world where everyone, upon reaching the age of 16, is scheduled to undergo cosmetic surgery to transform from 'ugly' into the socially accepted 'beautiful.' Girl Tally Youngblood has always looked forward to the surgery, eager to join others in becoming a 'beauty.'
