The story is set in the home of the famous demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, a husband and wife duo who consult on demonic and witchcraft matters. They perform exorcisms for those in need around the world and, in order to prevent these demonic spirits from harming humanity again, they bring back cursed, possessed, and cult-related items to their home, preserving them in a room that serves as both a sanctuary and a haunted museum. They regularly invite a priest to bless and purify the items, and among the artifacts in the Warren's haunted museum is Annabelle, a doll so evil that even Lorraine Warren does not wish to confront it directly. One fateful night, the door to the Warren's haunted museum is opened, and Judy, the daughter of the Warrens, has a friend who unknowingly releases Annabelle, awakening all the other spirits that have been set free. Annabelle and the evil spirits then have a new target: Judy and her friend...
