The story takes place in the 17th century in the Caribbean, where pirates were most active according to legend. The witty and charming Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) is a pirate sailing the Caribbean, owning his own pirate ship, the 'Black Pearl.' For him, the most enjoyable life is to drift across the Caribbean on the 'Black Pearl,' freely plundering passing ships. Unfortunately, his enemy, the cunning Captain Barbossa (played by Geoffrey Rush), steals his 'Black Pearl.' Barbossa is a villain of the worst kind; after robbing Jack's 'Black Pearl,' he becomes even bolder and tyrannizes the Caribbean, momentarily becoming the dominant force in the entire Caribbean.
