Having a past that is hard to look back on, Ando Mantaro (portrayed by Koichi Sato) receives a call in the morning from his colleague Miyashita (played by Tsurumi Shingo), informing him of the unexpected death of his friend Takayama Ryuji (portrayed by Hiroyuki Sanada) from medical university. Ando performs an autopsy on Takayama's body, ruling out suicide and homicide, and discovers that his friend died of a myocardial infarction. Under the police's arrangement, he meets Takayama's lover Takano Mai (played by Miki Nakatani) but hears that his friend met his demise due to a videotape. Naturally, Ando does not believe in such a vague speculation, but a few days later, Takayama's ex-wife Asakawa Reiko (portrayed by Nanako Matsushima) and their young son die in a car accident, and a damaged videotape player in the wreck raises Ando's suspicions. Before long, Asakawa's boss Yoshino (played by Yutaka Matsushige) visits him and reveals the entire truth about Sadako and the cursed videotape. Thus, Ando's fate begins to change... This film is adapted from Koji Suzuki's original work of the same name.
