The story takes place in 2045, where virtual reality technology has permeated every corner of human life. James Halliday (played by Mark Rylance) single-handedly created a virtual reality game world called 'The Oasis'. Before his death, he announced that he had set up an Easter egg in the game, and whoever finds this Easter egg will become the heir to The Oasis. To find this Easter egg, one must first obtain three keys, and the clues to find these keys are hidden in James's past. Wade (played by Tye Sheridan), Aech (played by Lena Waithe), Daito (portrayed by Winslow Fegley), and Shoto (played by Philip Zhao) are friends in the game, and together with the Artemis they later meet (played by Olivia Cooke), they embark on a quest to find the Easter egg. Their adversary is a capitalist named Nolan Sorrento (played by Ben Mendelsohn). Nominated for the Most Anticipated Foreign Film in the 4th Douban Film Annual List.
