The 45-year-old Kami Shun (played by Yuki Amami) works at a library. With her flowing long hair, she is beautiful, reserved, and well-read, making her the 'ideal woman' in the eyes of many men. However, Shun seems to disdain such evaluations; she maintains a kind and perfect smile in daily life, while inside she has a sharp tongue, openly criticizing the various injustices and absurdities around her. Having remained single, she has no interest in romance, believing that a life accompanied by books is the most ideal. One day, she unexpectedly reunites with her college lover, Yamakura Chōji (played by Kazuki Sawamura). Chōji had disappeared without a word long ago, leaving Shun deeply hurt.
