Housewife Kate (Angie Dickinson) leads a dull married life with her husband, while their son Peter (Keith Gordon) is obsessed with his inventions. She often seeks help from Elliott (Michael Caine), even considering seducing the tall and handsome psychologist. One day, Kate encounters a man at an art gallery, and after a brief mutual exploration, they quickly ignite passion. After the flames of desire fade, Kate reflects on her husband and son, feeling guilty. As she prepares to leave in an elevator, a strange woman wearing sunglasses brutally kills her with a razor. Prostitute Blake (Nancy Allen), who witnesses the horrific scene, becomes a suspect in the eyes of the police. To clear her name, she decides to investigate the case. With Peter's help, she quickly narrows her suspicions to a man named 'Buck,' who turns out to be a patient of Elliott's. Is this all a conspiracy or coincidence? As Blake edges closer to the truth, a great danger looms closer.
