The reboot tells the story of Amerie becoming a pariah at Hartley High and publicly falling out with her best friend Harper. With the help of her new friends Quinni and Darren, Amerie must restore her reputation and find the right way to deal with love, sex, and heartbreak along the way. The original series is a spinoff of the 1993 Australian film 'The Heartbreak Kid,' which tells the coming-of-age stories of a group of teenagers in high school, exploring topics such as adolescence, romantic relationships, racial discrimination, drug use, homelessness, juvenile crime, religion, education, and family. It aired from 1994 to 1999, covering 7 seasons and 210 episodes, initially on Network Ten, then moved to Australian ABC.
