The story takes place in the city of Three Rivers, Connecticut, in the 20th century. Dominic (played by Mark Ruffalo) is a man caught in dire straits. He once had a happy family, but the accidental death of his newborn child led to a rift in his relationship with his wife. Furthermore, Dominic's brother Thomas (also played by Mark Ruffalo) suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and often engages in self-harming behavior, requiring Dominic to constantly be on guard as an older brother. After his brother ultimately commits suicide, Dominic decides to search for answers within his own bloodline, leading him to investigate the true identity of his father, who left him long ago, and uncovering secrets about the family's hidden inheritance.
