Henry Crabbe is a detective inspector who is shot while on duty, which leads him to desire retirement in order to open a restaurant called Pie in the Sky. Cooking, particularly creating good English-style dishes with a modern touch, is his true passion. However, his aspiration is hindered by his superior, Assistant Chief Constable Freddy Fisher, who declines to grant him a full retirement.
