The Liangshan hero, the wanderer Yan Qing (played by Jiang Dawei), was introduced by the famous courtesan Li Shishi and received a pardon from the emperor. The entire Liangshan gang accepted the imperial decree and headed south to subdue Fang La. The Liangshan army successively captured counties, but many heroes perished along the way. The army attacked Hangzhou city, and strategist Wu Yong sent in seven heroes, including Zhang Shun (played by Li Xiuxian), Yan Qing, Shi Jin (played by Chen Guantai), Li Kui (played by Fan Meisheng), and Shi Xiu, to infiltrate the city and lay in ambush. Li Kui, in the city, caused a commotion that alerted the entire Hangzhou, while Yan Qing cleverly made his escape. Shi Xiu chose to sacrifice himself in order to avenge his adoptive brother, fighting to the death with the enemy general Shi Bao. Meanwhile, the others captured Fang La's son Fang Tianding alive, and Shi Jin heroically fought to his death covering the rear. Outside Hangzhou, Yan Qing battled with the southern wrestling master Si Xingfang before returning to the Liangshan camp. The army intended to attack Hangzhou through the Yongjin Gate as their breakthrough point. Generals like Wu Song (played by Di Long) led the troops to assault the city, ultimately fulfilling the mission of acting on behalf of heaven.
