The story is set in the present, where the mutant population has suffered an unprecedented devastating blow, and the root of it all is Mystique, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who assassinated Bolivar Trask, portrayed by Peter Dinklage, in 1973. After learning that Shadowcat, played by Ellen Page, has used her time-traveling abilities to help Blink, played by Fan Bingbing, and other allies escape the giant robots known as Sentinels, Professor X, played by Patrick Stewart, and Magneto, portrayed by Ian McKellen, come to an agreement. They decide to send Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, back to 1973 to find the young Professor X, played by James McAvoy, and the young Magneto, portrayed by Michael Fassbender, and persuade them to work together to stop Mystique's actions. Thus, Wolverine embarks on a journey back to the past, but whether fate can be reversed remains unknown to anyone.
