After the battle with the Green Goblin, Spider-Man Parker (played by Tobey Maguire) painfully rejects his only beloved Mary (played by Kirsten Dunst) because being Spider-Man would bring immense danger to himself and his loved ones. Parker decides to independently bear the responsibility of being Spider-Man. Parker has been busy dealing with various challenges: mastering the flexible use of his superpowers, disguising his true self while cautiously living under the dual identity of a superhero and an ordinary college student, and more. Parker finds it increasingly difficult to distance himself from Mary, but as Spider-Man, he cannot open up to her.
